The following was taken from a City-Data.com blog thread. The blog post was started by a cat owner trying to do research on Radioiodine Therapy. One blogger responded with these kind words about VICSD:
“Since our cat had an extreme reaction to the thyroid medication, radioactive iodine or surgery were his only options. Because of the heart murmur cause by the thyroid condition, we did not want to risk surgery.
Our boy was 14 at the time and will turn 17 next month. It was the best $1000 we ever spent. He was in the kitty slammer for 4 days. They were little stainless steel cages, but there was a web camera so we could check on him. We could also stop by and peer through a window to see him. He did all the things he did at home, eat, sleep, and litterbox – mostly sleep. We left one of our dirty shirts with him so it smelled like us. The tech wore protective equipment and checked on them a couple times a day. They would talk to them and pat them on their heads with their gloved hands.
He was never a cuddly kitty. But after his few days away from home, he rarely leaves our side. He is quite the snuggly bunny now. He had gained weight in the four days and was like a whole new cat. I would do it again in a heartbeat. In the long run, it is cheaper and more convenient than pilling. In addition, his heart murmur is now gone too.
